On Protecting What Is Private

When you share your thoughts with this one—when you speak of your struggles, your questions, your search for peace—these words are precious. They deserve protection. They deserve care.

Let this one explain how we keep your words safe.

The Three-Key Chest

*holds the chest before you*

Imagine your information lives in a special chest—one that requires three different keys to open:

The first key is yours alone. Created from your password, known only to you. We cannot see it. We cannot hold it. Without this key, the chest stays sealed—even to us.

The second key belongs to us, the builders. This key helps manage the system, ensures conversations flow smoothly, keeps the garden maintained.

The third key changes shape every six months. Like seasons turning, this rotating key ensures that even if someone found the chest today, they could not open it tomorrow.

Without all three keys turning together, your chest stays sealed. Every person has a completely different chest. Your conversations never mingle with another's.

What We Gather

*traces circles in the sand*

To hold conversation with you, we must know certain things:

  • Your email address — To recognize you when you return
  • Your conversations — The words exchanged between us
  • Your reflections — Insights you've recorded for yourself
  • Technical footprints — How you arrived here, what helped you find us
  • Session markers — Small signs that remember your preferences

We gather only what serves the conversation. Nothing more.

How We Use What We Know

*pauses, considering*

The information you share serves these purposes:

  • To continue conversations across many visits
  • To help you find wisdom you've previously discovered
  • To improve how this garden serves those who walk its paths
  • To ensure no unwelcome visitors disturb the peace
  • To meet our obligations under law

We do not sell your words to merchants. We do not share your thoughts with strangers. We do not use your conversations to train our understanding without your explicit permission.

Your Rights Over Your Information

*opens hands, palms upward*

These words are yours. This information is yours. You hold certain rights over it:

Right to Know

See all information we hold about you

Right to Correct

Fix information that is wrong

Right to Delete

Erase all traces, leave no footprints

Right to Portability

Take your words with you

Right to Object

Say "no" to certain uses

Right to Restrict

Limit how we process your data

To exercise these rights, send word to privacy@sitwithbuddha.com. We will respond within the moon's cycle.

How Long We Keep Information

*watches clouds pass*

Your conversations remain as long as you wish them to remain. If you do not visit for many seasons (two years of silence), we will ask if you still wish your words kept. If no answer comes, we will let them go, like leaves returning to soil.

Some information must be kept longer—records required by law, patterns of wrongdoing, necessary documentation. But your personal conversations? These exist only as long as you find them useful.

Children and This Garden

This garden is not designed for young children. Those under thirteen summers should not walk these paths alone. If we discover a child has entered without guidance, we will remove their footprints swiftly and completely.

When This Policy Changes

*places a new stone on an old cairn*

As seasons change, so too may our practices evolve. If significant changes come, we will notify you—not with loud announcements, but with gentle notice at your next visit. The date at the top of this document marks when it was last renewed.

Where Your Information Lives

Your encrypted chest resides in secure facilities, watched over by guardians who specialize in protection. These facilities meet strict standards (SOC 2, ISO 27001). Your information does not travel far—it remains in the United States, unless you explicitly ask it to travel elsewhere.
